Observations from Schooling Day

1. The CWD is certainly pretty, but it doesn't fit. I am a tad disappointed. Also I didn't pack my riser pad or mattes correction pad and I need them.

2. Pet Friendly hotels are great for *your* pets - but decidedly less awesome when the dog in the room next door shrieks every 8-12 minutes until 6am when it apparently fell asleep. (Note, my alarm was set for 6:02).

3. Grooms are Magical. Prairie looks like a million dollars, and I don't think she can so much as scatter her shavings without being attended to.

4. I am realizing how odd it is to not drug my horse. I thought it was normal to NOT drug but apparently Prair is the only sober horse here.

More later. S has two warm up rounds before two 3' Pre-Green rounds and her Under Saddle.

  1. Bummer about the saddle!!! I cant believe people drug their horses. I couldnt imagine doped up ponies at a 3-day event, haha! Way to "just say no"...proud of you :)

  2. Aw no, sorry that saddle isn't right!
Hope all goes well for the rest of the show! :)

  3. Ohs Nos on the saddle, how crushing.
It really is amazing, however, how many people do dope their horses for shows. Truly amazing.

  4. I'm sorry about the saddle!!! What are you going to do? Also, yeah, in H/J land, drugging is the norm. When I was looking for a trainer, someone who doesn't drug was non-negotiable. I found ONE. Good thing I like him. I was telling one of the kids at the new barn that I love him because he'd never hurt a horse to win, and that includes not drugging, and she was all, "Oh, I had to drug my pony when I did the crossrail hunters because she was just so wired." It was all I could do not to strangle her.

  5. RE the saddle... NOOOOO! That. Sucks. I hope they can make it right.

Drugging horses? Like, WHAT? Aren't those substances illegal? (Coming from Eventer land here - NO FRICKIN' WAY you'd want a drugged horse XC... as you well know!)

  7. That's so disappointing about the saddle, and I too am a little perplexed about the drugging of the ponies. I would think that your main goal would be to train a perfectly controllable horse who can also compete, not just dope up an uncontrollable one.

  8. Hmmm...what's wrong with the saddle? When I got my CWD, it was seriously narrow. Too narrow for my narrow OTTB but the rep warned me this would be the case. It needed about 10-15 rides to 'relax' if you will. It doesn't fit perfectly - he has that weird high wither with hollow spots right behind the shoulder TB thing going in but a half pad filled those in with no problems. He loves the saddle and has zero soreness in his back. Hope it works out as I love mine!

  9. Wait drugging is the NORM in the H/J world? Like seriously? Wow.

Sorry about the saddle...hopefully it's fixable...

  10. Isn't drugging illegal? My trainer isn't one who drugs- we are expected to actually ride ;)

Hope you can get some sleep and the neighbor dog chills out!

Can't wait to hear about the show!

  12. Sorry about the saddle. Someone in my barn bought one as well and when it arrived if didn't fit properly. The rep came out and mentioned that the saddle needed a few weeks of riding... Unfortunately stories like this make me happy that I opted for a wolf flocked saddle although I know there are horror stories about all saddles. I hope that CWD stands behind the saddle and either fixes the issue or makes you another. Good luck at the show!

  13. That sucks that the saddle doesn't fit. Especially since it came from France and all!!

Also, I nominated you for a Liebster Award! http://panicandthepony.blogspot.com/2013/06/liebster-award.html
